WPA3 Support

I'm currently planning a small sensor project with an ESP8266 MCU and considered to use Micropython for the implementation since I already use a lot of Python for other projects. Unfortunately, my WiFi at home is running WPA3 and the Micropython docs ([1]) indicate that WPA3 is currently not supported.

Is it planned to add WPA3 support to Micropython in the nearer future? Since WPA3 is the new and more secure standard, this would be a great feature to have!

Description

Subject: Inquiry about MicroPython Support for ESP32-C6 Zigbee Features

Dear MicroPython Development Team,

I would like to ask about the future support of Zigbee functionality on the ESP32-C6 in MicroPython.

As you know, the ESP32-C6 includes an integrated IEEE 802.15.4 radio, which enables Zigbee and Thread communication. Currently, I could not find any official information on whether MicroPython has plans to support the Zigbee stack on ESP32-C6, similar to how Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are supported.

Could you please let me know:

  1. If there are ongoing plans to add Zigbee support for ESP32-C6 in MicroPython?
  2. Whether there are any experimental branches, community efforts, or roadmap items related to this feature?
  3. If not yet planned, would contributions or testing support from the community be welcome?

Many developers, including myself, are very interested in leveraging Zigbee on the ESP32-C6 using MicroPython for rapid prototyping and IoT applications. It would be great to know if this is something we can look forward to.

Thank you very much for your time and for the excellent work you are doing with MicroPython.
